Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.3 percent in January, up two-tenths over-the-previous month. A year ago, the rate was 2.7 percent.
The labor force, meanwhile, increased by 547 and ended at 113,495. That number went up by 4,862 when compared to January 2023.
Gainesville finished the month with 110,875 employed residents, a jump of 294 over-the-month and 5,167 when compared to the same time a year. In addition, January ended with 109,100 jobs. down by 1,500 from December to January and up by 5,900 when compared to January 2023.
The state’s regional commissions also realized a slight uptick in the unemployment rate. In the Gainesville-based 13-county Georgia Mountains Region, which includes Hall County and most of northeast Georgia, the rate was up two-tenths to 2.6 percent. In the Athens-based Northeast Georgia Regional Commission, which includes a few nearby counties, the rate was also up two-tenths to 3.0 percent.
