Shooting at VA facility; 300 tons of trash; Head start on turkey season for some

*At least one person is hurt after a shooting at a VA clinic in Jasper. According to Jasper Police, the incident happened around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. When they arrived, hey found the suspect and reportedly shot the suspect, but their status is not known. The Pickens County sheriff said the victim was airlifted from the scene. Atlanta News First reports that following the incident, an arrest took place.  

*Savannah’s Solid Waste Senior Director Quhannah Andrews tells WSAV he had more than 100 sanitation workers were on the clock at various times today for what he calls their Superbowl. He’s talking of course about the city’s famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Andrews says his crews were not expecting as much trash this year since the event fell on a Tuesday. In year’s past, he says they have collected up to 300 tons of trash.

*Georgia’s turkey season is set to begin this weekend for select groups, including youth and mobility-impaired hunters on private lands. The statewide turkey season opens on March 28 for private land and April 4 for public land. 13 WMAZ reports the special early opportunity is limited to hunters under 16 years old or those with mobility impairments. Hunters must adhere to a one male turkey per hunter per day bag limit and keep records of their harvests through Georgia Game Check. While hunters under 16 do not need a license, adults must have a hunting license and big game license unless hunting on private land.
