Sept. was the 5th driest on record in Atlanta; Gville was below average, too

Atlanta just recorded its fifth driest September on record with only 0.16 inches of rain recorded at the airport. Meanwhile, Gainesville received 2.58 inches, which is 1.38 inches below normal, and we are heading into what is typically the driest month of the year in Gainesville.

The amount recorded in Atlanta is 3.66 inches below average for September. The driest on record was 1984 (0.04) followed by 2005 (0.07), 1884 (0.08), and 1897 (0.14). And the city received less rainfall during the month than several desert towns including Las Vegas and Albuquerque.

Meanwhile, the prospects for any rain of note in the near future for north Georgia are not good. “A pleasant start to the month of October as dry and mild (fall-like?) weather will move into north and central GA through Friday,” the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City office said in a Facebook post early Wednesday. “High temps will be in the low 80s today, then fall to the mid to upper 70s for Thursday/Friday. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 50s. Skies will be mostly clear with breezy winds each afternoon.”
