BUFORD WOLVES NEWS RELEASE:

“After an 8th inning victory over East Coweta on Friday night, Senior Emma Grace Williams was given the ball for a rematch with the Indians in the state title game. Williams retired East Coweta 1-2-3 in the 1st inning.

In their half of the 1st inning, the Wolves wasted no time in getting on the board when Senior Adriana Martinez blasted a 2-run HR to left field, scoring fellow Senior Mackenzie Pickens who had walked earlier. Sophomore Kadyn Gabrels would drive in the 3rd Buford run later in the inning.

East Coweta struck back in the 2nd inning, with a solo HR from their DH Jada Savage. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Martinez hit her 2nd HR of the game, a solo shot to center field to make the score 4-1.

In the 4th inning, the Wolves extended their lead with a solo homerun by Senior Mackenzie Pickens, and a RBI-single from Senior Tavye Borders to take a 6-1 lead.

After another 1-2-3 inning of pitching by Williams, the Senior Wolves went back to work in their half of the 5th inning. Junior Izzy Rettiger beat out a bunt single to lead off the Buford at bat. Senior Madison Pickens (the program’s single-season homerun leader) fouled off several pitches before launching her 20th HR of the season over the right field wall. Next batter up was Madison’s twin sister Mackenzie (the program’s career homerun leader) who ended the game with a solo HR to left field.
