A new twist in an investigation into “inappropriate” comments made about a youngster by Banks County sheriff’s deputies during a recent investigation: it has led to charges of feticide and the search for possibly two feticide victims.
It started over the weekend with a social media posting referring to unspecified actions by unnamed officers.
But on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office provided an update on its probe of just what happened on the part of the deputies, concluding a lengthy statement on the probe with surprising reference to the feticide revelations.
FULL TEXT OF STATEMENT ISSUED TUESDAY BY THE BANKS CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE:
“On Sunday evening, a social media post surfaced that included video footage of inappropriate comments made by deputies regarding a child. We take these allegations seriously and immediately began a thorough administrative investigation to address the concerns raised by the public.
Upon learning of the complaint, our deputies attempted to contact the individual who posted the video to gather more information at the residence mentioned. However, we were informed that the complainant had left on Sunday night, and the contact information provided has been unreliable. This has made conducting a complete and thorough investigation into the claims challenging.
It is important to note that the actual resident and parent of the child referred to in the video had no interest in filing a formal complaint against our personnel. They indicated that the complainant had left the area, knowing that we were conducting an investigation.
Even though we have not been able to make contact with the original poster, the administrative investigation continued into the conduct of the deputies depicted in the video. The integrity of our process remains a priority, and we are dedicated to thoroughly examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, the violations of policy are being disciplined in accordance with established procedures and professional standards.
Regarding the video and incident in question, on March 25, 2025, deputies arrived to execute an arrest warrant on an individual staying at an address on Blacks Creek Church Road and, in the course of the operation, discovered two additional individuals with outstanding warrants, who were subsequently taken into custody.
During the arrest warrant service, methamphetamine was located in plain view along with drug paraphernalia (syringes) in the same room as the child and an offender. An additional search warrant was secured and executed to locate any additional narcotics.
During the process, deputies were alerted to alarming claims regarding possible feticide connected to previous domestic abuse incidents. It was reported that there were two deceased infants on the property. Our team promptly obtained an additional search warrant to investigate the feticide claims.
The Sheriff’s Office is treating these investigations with the utmost seriousness. The feticide investigation is currently ongoing, as are the drug-related offense cases. The safety and well-being of our community is our top priority, and we are committed to thoroughly examining all intricate aspects of this case.
