UPDATE #3: Suspected cop shooter arrested

10:00 P.M. SATURDAY UPDATE:

Authorities say Ramsey was arrested about 6:00 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area near McCaysville. He was taken to the Fannin County Jail and has been charged with aggravated assault with intent to kill a police officer. Capt. Worley remained hospitalized in Chattanooga Saturday night in critical condition. Gov. Brian Kemp issued a statement asking all Georgians to pray for Worley and his family and all first responders.

“A BLUE ALERT has been issued for Timothy Craig Ramsey, age 26. Ramsey is wanted for injuring McCaysville Police Captain Brantley Worley that occurred on September 12, 2025, at 11:10 p.m. on 1st Street in McCaysville, GA.

Ramsey is a white male, 5’11”, 185 lbs, with long brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen in the area of 1st Street, McCaysville, GA, on September 12, 2025, at 11:10 p.m. Ramsey was wearing a green top, green bottoms, and had a dark-colored motorcycle helmet. He was traveling on foot.

Ramsey is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or see any suspicious activity, please take immediate precautions and notify 911.

The suspect has been identified as Timothy Craig Ramsey, 26. Ramsey is considered “armed and dangerous,” according to an updated lookout from McCaysville Police. Meanwhile, the search for him continues across northeast Georgia and part of Tennessee.

A northeast Georgia police officer was fighting for his life Saturday morning after being shot in the face Friday night.

McCaysville officer Brantley Worley was shot when he answered a call about a suspicious car on Central Avenue about might. Worley, however, was shot at a house on First Street but it wasn’t immediately clear how he ended up there.

“I ask that you please keep my department, the officer, his family, and his children in your thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult time,” McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley said in a statement.

McCaysville, population about 2,000, is in Fannin County and straddles the Georgia-Tennessee line.
