“On December 13-14, we are making one last major push to find our beloved Charles Hosch before the holidays.” So begins the latest update on the nearly month-long search for Gainesville native and Texas attorney and law professor Charlie Hosch. Friends and relatives of Hosch posted the update on a website devoted to finding him.
“Multiple multistate search-and-rescue nonprofits and volunteers are joining our efforts to search Blood Mountain for Charles,” the message continues.
Hosch has been missing since November 11 after a planned short hike on a trail he’s known since childhood. His wife Beth, daughters Julia and Cat, son-in-law Adi, brother Heyward, law partner Kate Morris, and his infant granddaughter—are desperately hoping to bring him home for the holidays.
“To do this, we will first need many volunteers (hiking not necessarily required!) here in Georgia. If you are local, please consider signing up here. Volunteer positions include hikers, runners, medical support, lunch/dinner chefs/pickup, drivers, phone support from trailhead, etc. And if there’s something not here that you or your organization would like to share, please let us know! Email us at [email protected].
“All positions labeled as “hikers” will need to sign an assumption of risk at check-in. And for everyone at positions with “Byron Reese Trailhead” at the location, please dress according to the weather, with closed-toe shoes (hiking ideal).
“And second, we need your monetary support. To thank these rescue heroes and support their efforts, we are raising funds for meals, lodging, and necessary equipment during their stay. To contribute in this way, please visit our GoFundMe here.
“Thank you for being Charles’ community. We hope and pray that this will be the last weekend of our search, and that we are successful in bringing him home. We can do it together!”
As of early Monday afternoon $19,570, of the $26,000 goal had been raised through the GoFundMe account.
