School cops may lose jobs; Man charged with killing elderly mom; Demanding probe of USPS deaths

*Eight Augusta school campus police officers face losing their badges over a cheating scandal. State records made public this week show the Georgia POST Council voted to revoke the licenses of the officers, following an investigation launched in 2024. Records show seven of the officers were tied to a group text thread where answers for mandatory classes on human trafficking and de-escalation were leaked, used, or left unreported. The officers now have 30 days after getting their notices to fight the decision before they are banned from police work.

*A Macon man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 80-year-old mother. An autopsy conducted by the GBI determined the woman’s death was a homicide. The death was reportedly tied to injuries she had from a domestic disturbance. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old John Lyons O’Connor, was taken into custody Friday morning and has been charged with murder.  

*Postal workers union members are calling for an independent safety investigation into the troubled U.S. Postal Service processing facility in Palmetto following the deaths of four employees in the past two years. The American Postal Workers Union President emphasized the need for an independent third-party analysis to improve worker safety. Fox 5 Atlanta reports the U.S. Postal Service has stated that local management is working on safety measures and has added new tools, including emergency phones linked directly to 911.
