School board sues county; SCOGA to hear elections board’s case; State, federal holiday

*The Cobb County School District has filed a lawsuit against Cobb County, accusing the county of withholding millions in school tax revenue since 2011. The district claims the county is not following a local law that mandates all school taxes collected be given directly to the school board without fees. Fox5 Atlanta reports the district is seeking a court order to stop the county from increasing its tax collection fee and to release the disputed funds. This legal action is part of a larger dispute between the county and school district regarding the handling of school tax revenues.  

*The Georgia Supreme Court (SCOGA) is set to hear arguments in a case involving the appointment of two Republicans to the Fulton County Elections Board. The Republican Party nominated Julie Adams and Jason Frazier, but the County Commission refused to seat them. WFXG reports the court will consider whether the General Assembly can delegate authority to political parties to appoint board members is constitutional. The Fulton County Election Board currently has four members, including Adams and two Democratic appointees.
