Gainesville Police have taken three reports over the past two days in which separate businesses suffered losses totaling more than a million dollars to scammers and thieves.
Spokesman Kevin Holbrook said Tuesday a packaging supply store suffered the biggest loss – $1.1 million. “(They) sent a wire transfer to a scammer thinking they were paying a business.” In addition, a remodeling company was taken for $29,800 by someone “using an email account to request payments.”
In the third instance, a plumbing company reports losing tools worth $15,800 to someone who broke into one of its vans.
