An Oakwood man has been charged with child molestation in connection with an alleged incident that occurred over the weekend in Oakwood.
“(Sunday morning about 11:00, Oakwood police officers) responded to the complainant’s residence for a report of child molestation,” Oakwood Det. Sgt. Stuart Webb said. “The complainant, stated her 12-year-old niece was involved in a sexual battery incident while spending the weekend at her mother’s house (on Oakwood Road).”
The victim, Lt. Webb added, identified her mother’s live-in boyfriend, Damon Cook, as being the suspect who sexually assaulted the girl while she was asleep on the living room couch.
“(Detectives) responded and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and collected possible evidence related to this incident.”
The 40-year-old Cook remained in the Hall County Jail late Monday morning without bond and charged with child molestation and sexual battery with a child under 16.
