Road rage incident leads to arrest of metro Atlanta trucker

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRAATIVE:

“Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an East Point man this week on charges stemming from a road rage incident on I‑985.

Just before 2 p.m. Thursday…deputies responded to the road rage call at the I‑985 southbound off-ramp at Exit 8 (Ga. 347/Friendship Road). They met with the two parties involved.

According to the initial investigation, the male victim was driving his car south on the interstate and merged into the left lane to pass a tractor-trailer. The truck driver then moved into the victim’s lane, almost pushing the victim’s car off the road. The driver of the car got away from the 18-wheeler, but the truck driver began to follow him closely, nearly causing a crash. The victim tried to get away from the truck several times before both vehicles exited at Exit 8.

While on the exit ramp, the truck driver, who was in front, used the 18-wheeler to block the victim’s car, keeping him from driving away. The truck driver verbally threatened to kill the victim and began throwing objects at his car. As the victim attempted to drive away, the truck driver opened a door on the truck, striking the victim’s windshield.

Deputies arrested the truck driver, identified as Malik Garfield Burton, 34, and charged him with terroristic threats/acts (felony). He was also cited for aggressive driving, opening doors to moving traffic, and littering on the highway.

Burton remains held without bond in the Hall County Jail…”
