Road rage: Gunfire reported

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating an apparent road rage incident that occurred Thursday night on I-985 in South Hall.

Just after 6:30, deputies responded to a call from a driver who reported to 911 that his back window had been shattered after someone shot at him.

The initial investigation determined the driver had been traveling northbound in the right-hand lane of the interstate near Mile Marker 16. He moved to the left lane to pass a tractor trailer when a gold van pulled up behind him and began following him closely.

As he moved back to the right lane, the driver observed a red laser light through his back window and heard a loud pop. He exited the interstate and called 911.

The driver was not injured.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol also responded to the scene.

The investigation has been turned over to the HCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB).
