Retired veteran state lawmaker dies; Considering teen curfew; Dangerous Chattahoochee; Today’s the day

*A longtime Georgia lawmaker is dead at the age of 84. Former House Majority Leader Larry Walker, Jr. passed away this week while in hospice care in his Houston County home. He served on the Georgia House for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2005. Gov. Brian Kemp said Walker’s life and legacy will continue to benefit the people of our state for generations to come. 

*A curfew for juveniles is being considered in Milledgeville. The city council decided to postpone a vote this week in order to get more feedback from the community. The proposal is to invoke curfews for kids 16-and-under during the week from 11:00 p.m.-5:00 a.m. Curfew would begin at midnight on the weekends.  The reason: an increase in juvenile crime and concerns about teens being out late at night.  

*River patrols are increasing as recent rains have made the Chattahoochee River more dangerous. Coweta County Fire Rescue told FOX5 that people need to respect the power of the water and plan trips carefully. Coweta first responders are trying to cover a wider area by sending more manpower and equipment up and down the river.  

*Atlanta will feel the impact of the World Cup at Centennial Olympic Park today. The FIFA Fan Festival kicks off and lasts through July 19 with musical performances, watch parties, food, kid events and more. Things start off quickly with a watch party for the World Cup’s first match between Mexico and South Africa, which kicks off this afternoon in Mexico City.  Atlanta’s first match is Monday.
