Retired Slack Auto Parts CEO dies

A man whose family name is synonymous with the auto parts business in Gainesville has died. Bill Slack III passed away Tuesday. He was 93.

Slack joined the family business, Slack Auto Parts, in 1956 following a stint in the Navy. After his father died in 1971, he became CEO of the company until his retirement in 2006 capping off a 50-year career in the automotive replacement parts industry. 

Beyond his professional achievements, Slack served the community in a number of ways from the United Way to the arts and was the former director of the Gainesville Redevelopment Authority.
