Funeral services will be held later this week for a Gainesville architect and community leader who died recently. Jeane Ruth McCrary Parker died Saturday. She was 88.
She and her husband, Jerome Parker, Jr., owned and operated Parker Architects, Inc. Together, her obituary says, they designed office buildings, community centers, government buildings, and residences across north Georgia, “leaving an enduring mark on the landscape and life of the region.” One of her most prized accomplishments was the adaptive reuse of the old Candler Street Elementary School in Gainesville, which she transformed into professional offices – breathing new life into “a beloved piece of local history.”
The couple was active in their church community for decades and together helped found St. Francis Anglican Catholic Church in Gainesville.
