A retired Gainesville banker and civic leader, Andy Walker, has died at the age of 74.
Walker’s career in banking took him from Gainesville to Auburn, AL; Freeport, TX; Dalton, GA; Johns Creek, GA; and home again to Gainesville.
He was the founding CEO of First National Bank of Johns Creek and founding President of First National Bank of Forsyth County and president of Alliance National Bank in Dalton.
Walker was President of Mountain Top Rotary in Highlands, NC, President-Elect in of the Gainesville Rotary Club, a member of the Dalton club, and charter president of The Rotary Club in Johns Creek.
He was a Director of the United Way of Hall County, Director of the Hall County Girls Club, and Director of the Christian Education Center. He was made an Honorary Lifetime Foundation Trustee of Gainesville College (now the University of North Georgia Gainesville) for his contributions there as Chair of the Foundation. He was also Chair of the Brenau University Advisory Board of Trustees and was their 2004 Community Volunteer of the Year.
Wherever he lived, he was deeply involved in the Episcopal Church.
A service for Walker will be held at 2:00 March 28 at Grace Episcopal in Gainesville.
