Day 1: Colin Gray jury selection; Gray being held in Hall County Jail during the process

As jury selection got underway in Gainesville Monday for the father of Apalachee school shooting suspect Colt Gray, many of those on the panel from which the jury to hear the case will be selected admitted they had strong feelings about the school shooting.

Gray has been indicted on 29 counts for allegedly giving his son the gun used in the shooting.

Jurors were called into the courtroom in the Hall County Courthouse individually and asked by lawyers for both sides about their thoughts about the shooting and whether they could render a fair verdict if chosen for the jury.

Many said they had strong opinions about the case, but most said they felt they could be open-minded about it if they were picked.

Among the questions they were asked were if they were gun owners. Most said they were. Have they ever given a gun as a gift to a minor? Only one answered “yes.”

The process continues Tuesday. No one has said how long it could take but the judge has set aside three weeks for jury selection and the trial itself.

Meanwhile, Gray is being held in the Hall County Jail while jury selection is underway. Records show he was first lodged there Sunday.
