*A University of Georgia graduate is being remembered after a shooting on the campus of a Virginia school. Lt. Col. Brandon Shah was serving as a professor of military science when a gunman opened fire at Old Dominion University in Norfolk yesterday. Shah was killed and two others were hurt.
*More lawmakers are urging Georgia’s governor to suspend the state gas tax as prices soar at the pump. Brian Kemp signaled earlier this week that he’s holding off for now to see how the market unfolds. More Democratic lawmakers have called on the governor to suspend the tax like he did during the COVID pandemic, which drops the price at the pump by more than 30-cents.
*Centennial Olympic Park will be transformed this summer into a space to celebrate the World Cup. The city’s host committee announced plans yesterday for the FIFA Fan Festival, which will run 16-days between June and July. Events will be free.
*A lottery player in Henry County has a thicker wallet this week thanks to a big win. The individual claimed a two-million-dollar prize from the Jackpots Galore scratch-off game on Wednesday.
*Some communities in south and middle Georgia are picking up pieces from severe Thursday morning storms. The National Weather Service reported a tornado touched down and traveled through parts of Macon, Houston and Peach counties. At least five people were reported injured in Marshallville. A mobile home being transported Thursday was blown off a trailer in Atkinson County.
