Thursday, on the 24th anniversary of 9/11, Community Service Officers Mike Burgamy and Chuck Poteet of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office accepted a commemorative American flag from Rick and Patti Hardin.
The flag is a gift to all first responders in the county and will be shared among the agencies.
The red stripes on the flag are comprised of the names of the 2,977 people killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The dead include Gainesville native Edna Stephens, who was 53 when one of the planes that had been commandeered by terrorists crashed into the Pentagon. Stephens had worked there for 34 years and was serving as a budget analyst at the time of her death. You can read more about Stephens here: Edna L. Stephens – 9/11 Pentagon Memorial
In addition to the flag the Hardins presented to the officers, the Deaton Creek Military Support Club gave a certificate to honor all first responders in the community.
