Records highs recorded Thursday; Day 4: Colin Gray trial; HCSD’s Governor’s Honors Program semifinalists

*Daily records for high temperatures were set in many locations across north and central Georgia yesterday, including at Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, and Macon. Elsewhere, Gainesville and other locations were 18-20 degrees above normal. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s and low 80s were between 15-22 degrees above what we normally see on February 19. Unseasonably warm conditions will continue today before a rainy Saturday followed by a big plunge in the temperatures.

*As the Colin Gray trial continued in Winder Thursday, the main topic was whether he knew his son, the accused gunman in the September 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School, was a threat to others. Jurors first saw bodycam video from officers who went to Colin’s house the day of the shooting. “God I knew it when my little girl just texted it… God almighty please tell me your brother didn’t do something,” Colin Gray reacted as officers told him Colt had committed a school shooting. The video showed Gray admitting there were guns in the house but said his son did not have unfettered access.

*21 Hall County School District students have been selected as semifinalists for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP). The program is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high
school juniors and seniors. It will be held again this year at Georgia Southern University.
