“BIDEN IS OUT!” Tweeted one prominent Hall County Republican Sunday afternoon shortly after President Biden announced he was quitting his quest for another term in the White House.
Doug Collins (pictured), who was one of Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters while they were both in office, continued “The elites have done it, they have kicked out Joe Biden and the Democrat elites have taken over the insane asylum. Talk about “defending democracy”
But rank-and-file Hall Countians who supported Biden looked at it differently.
“Thank you, Joe” read one social media post, which also featured a depiction of the president’s trademark sunglasses. There were also several “I’m with her” posts referring to Vice-President Kamala Harris who quickly announced Sunday that she would seek the Democratic nomination in the wake of Biden’s decision.
Meanwhile, at the state level, Democratic U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff both heaped praise on the President.
“I join millions of Americans in thanking Joe Biden for a half-century of public service,” Warnock Tweeted.
And both are among prominent Georgia Democrats who immediately endorse Harris. Ossoff issuing a statement saying “Harris is absolutely the right candidate to defeat Donald Trump and unite our country. In addition, Warnock is said to be one of several Democrats being mentioned as a possible running mate for Harris should she become the nominee.
The chairman of the state Republican Party, Josh McKoon, echoing something Trump had said earlier in the afternoon, said that Biden should immediately resign instead of finishing his term if doesn’t feel he’s able to continue with the campaign and perform his official duties at the same time.
And Republican Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones stated on X that there’s nothing Democrats can do to change the damage they’ve done to the border.
Neither the Hall County Democratic Committee nor the county’s Republican Party had issued any public reaction to Sunday’s developments by late Sunday night.
