*A 19-year-old was being held without bond in the Hall County Jail at mid-morning Sunday on a rape charge. He was arrested a few hours earlier, according to jail records. (Additional information is not likely to be available until Monday morning when local law enforcement administrative offices reopen following the weekend.)
*Meanwhile, the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) in an apparently unrelated case, has opened an investigation into a reported rape at one of the city’s homeless camps. It was reported last Tuesday. But a police spokesman says investigators don’t have much to go on. “Uncooperative victim…did not provide much information,” Lt. Kevin Holbrook wrote in an email.
*GPD is also investigating a report of an armed robbery in which the victim was shot. A 42-year-old man reported Tuesday that he was held up in the 1600 block of Athens Street late Wednesday night and, in addition to being shot, is “out” $4,500 as a result. “Subject arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg,” Lt. Holbrook said.
