“Police were called in regards to a suspicious package in the area,” Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said initially. “An explosives ordinance canine and team found the package to be clear of any dangers.”
Green Street was closed from Academy Street to Ridgewood Avenue but was reopened about 12:45.
Lt. Holbrook said the package was at the Jacobs building next to the post office and that everything in the area was evacuated. The whole operation, he said, lasted “less than 30 minutes.”
