EARLIER STORY. POSTED 4:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY:
With a major fire in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Rabun County still fresh in a lot of people’s minds, there’s word of another. This time in the Blue Ridge Ranger District and it has resulted in the closing of a part of the Appalachian Trail.
The district’s posting about the closure on Facebook calls it “temporary.” The affected section runs from Blue Ridge Gap to Deep Gap and the statement refers to the fire as “uncontrolled wildfire activity.”
(This is a developing story, and it will be updated as more information becomes available.)
