Overnight fire destroys 3 Buford businesses

A fire Saturday night destroyed three downtown Buford businesses.

Firefighters got calls reporting the blaze about 7:15. It was in the 4500 block of Nelson Brogdon Boulevard. The callers staid they saw smoke and flames and that Benchmark Physical Therapy was on fire.

Firefighters found a working fire in the roof and attic of a two-story office building. At one point, the roof collapsed and crew members who had been fighting the flames from inside left the building. The fire was brought under control about 7:45.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The business keyholder informed firefighters that they had left the office Friday and had not returned since.

Fire investigators said the cause of the fire was not immediately determined but that it started in the attic of the building.
