Week eight of Friday Night Football in North Georgia features a cross town region 8-AAA match up, as the Cherokee Bluff Bears take on the West Hall Spartans.
The Bears are currently undefeated on the season (5-0); beating Lumpkin County, Apalachee, North Hall, Habersham Central, and Banks County, in their first five games of the season. Tomorrow’s series will be the first region game for the team this season.
Meanwhile, the Spartans come in to the game at 0-1 in region play and 4-2 on the season, following a 49-7 loss to Jefferson this past Saturday.
Team is ‘itching’ to play – Last few weeks ‘abnormal’
Cherokee Bluff comes off of a two week break in play; having a bye week on September 20th, and postponement last week due to Hurricane Helene. Mike Wofford interviewed Bears head Coach Tommy Jones and asked how prepared the team is for tomorrow’s game after the long break. “I think we are itching to play. . .” he stated. “. . . It’s been very abnormal. I don’t know in my career if I’ve ever been a part of two consecutive bye weeks in the middle of a season. . .” Their game against Oconee County, which was scheduled for last Friday, has been moved to Thursday, October 17th.
The loss of practice lead to challenges
Mike Wofford interviewed Spartans head Coach Krofton Montgomery and asked how the team plans to rebound following the loss to Jefferson. “. . . Our kids know that Jefferson is a really good team. . . ” he noted. “. . .They also know that we missed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in practice. They knew we didn’t play our best. . .when you don’t practice, you are not going to play well. . .” The loss to Jefferson follows four straight wins against Northview, Chestatee, Johnson, and Franklin County.
Our broadcast will begin tomorrow, at 7:05pm, with the Longstreet Cafe Pregame Show. Both interviews with the coaches can be heard on ‘Game Plan – A Look at High School Football in North Georgia’, which begins before the game, at 6:05pm.
