Two men are now in custody following an altercation that ended in gunfire and the wounding of another outside a Flowery Branch convenience store on a week ago.
HCSO NEWS RELEASE:
“John Wesley Melton, 31, of Flowery Branch and Kyle Rashawn Ramsey, 28, of Gainesville each face two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in connection to the incident. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Warrant Service Unit deputies arrested Melton at his residence on Plainview Road, while Ramsey turned himself in at the Hall County Jail.
According to the investigation to date, HCSO deputies responded just before 7:15 p.m. this past Friday to the Citgo convenience store at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Plainview Road to investigate a reported gunshot. They found Kenneth Andre Loving, 29, of Flowery Branch, on the ground with a gunshot wound to his right leg. The victim was conscious and able to talk, but he declined to give information on what had happened to him. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, deputies at the scene, along with an Oakwood Police Department officer, located a handgun in the bushes beside the business and a .40 caliber shell casing in the parking lot.
Criminal investigators who took over the investigation determined Melton and the victim had walked to the convenience store where they encountered Ramsey and his father, 52-year-old Charles Rico Ramsey, at the side of the store. Investigators said Melton and Rico Ramsey had been involved in a previous feud, and the two began verbally arguing. The argument escalated into a physical fight and Rico and Kyle Ramsey retreated to their vehicle. Investigators determined both Rico and Kyle Ramsey were armed with handguns during the altercation. Kyle Ramsey fired a weapon from the fleeing vehicle, and the bullet struck Loving. Rico Ramsey dropped his handgun during the course of the altercation. Melton picked up the weapon and fired it at the vehicle as the Ramseys were driving away.
Both Melton and Kyle Ramsey are being held with no bond at the Hall County Jail.”
