One injured in boat fire; Small fire at NGHS Oakwood facility

One person was injured in a boat fire on Lake Lanier Sunday afternoon and not long after Hall County firefighters had been called to the Northeast Georgia Health System’s (NGHS) Corporate Plaza in Oakwood where they found a small fire.

HALL CO FIRE RESCUE NEWS RELEASES:

“At approximately 4:41 pm Hall County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a boat fire at Balus Creek Park. Prior to HCFR arrival, the four boaters jumped into the water and swam to safety away from the flames. One boater received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The Marine Rescue team arrived…tethered the fully involved ski boat and pulled it closer to the shore for fire suppression. The (fire) was almost fully extinguished by the time (the boat) reached land. Crews ensured all of the flames were suppressed before leaving the scene…”

Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), said the fire started when one of occupants tried to start the engine after it stalled.

“Around 4:11 pm Hall County Fire Rescue responded to 3100 Frontage Road for reports of a commercial fire. The first arriving crew was met with smoke on the interior of the structure. The source of the small flames and smoke was located quickly in a singular cubicle…

No one was injured…and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office.”
