One person was injured in that traffic accident Friday afternoon on I-985 that closed both southbound lanes and one northbound lane for about two hours. It happened about 5:00 near Exit 12.
Quoting Flowery Branch Police, Fox 5 reports that the first officers on the scene found a car “tangled” in the median barrier cables. About a fourth of a mile north of there, officers found an SUV with a damaged fender and windshield.
According to the investigation, the car, which was headed south, suffered a mechanical problem that caused the driver to lose control and strike the cable barrier. The impact caused a piece of metal to fly into the northbound lane and strike the SUV.
The car’s driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The SUV driver was not injured.
All lanes were reopened about 7:00 Friday night.
