A 70-year-old Clarkesville man, Kenneth Walter Burton, was pronounced dead at the scene after his SUV left a Habersham County road and crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

The state patrol says it happened on Habersham Mills Road near Granite Drive. A witness told troopers she attempted to help Burton but was turned back by the fire.

In a separate Habersham crash, Trenton Bryant Cox, 17, Cornelia, was seriously injured when his pickup was involved in a crash with another pickup, driven by Justin David Scott, 27, Cornelia, which was pulling a 25-foot utility tailer. The state patrol says Scott lost control and slammed into Cox’s truck.

Scott was charged with DUI.

The accident happened on Camp Creek Road near Wilson Road.
