One dead in Lanier boating accident

One person was killed in boating accident on Lake Lanier earlier this week. Word of the incident only came to light Friday.

“On the afternoon of April 14, 2025, GA DNR (Georgia Department of Natural) game wardens responded to a boat incident on Lake Lanier near Three Sisters Island in Forsyth County,” DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon wrote in an email Friday morning. “All individuals involved are accounted for and there was one fatality.”

McKinnon added the DNR Law Enforcement Critical Incident Reconstruction Team (CIRT) is investigating. No charges have been filed at this time. At the conclusion of the investigation, the CIRT game wardens will decide if charges are warranted.

McKinnon did not release the victim’s name or another other information. However, the Forsyth County News (FCN) identified him as Al Luthringer, 53, of Cumming and said he was killed when his foil wing board and a ponton boat collided.
