Just days after protesters gathered outside the Gainesville office of Republican Congressman Andrew Clyde demanding that he hold a town hall meeting, a group of people in middle Georgia, with similar concerns about their representative is planning their own town hall.
Their congressman is Austin Scott, another Republican, whom they say has not held an in-person town hall meeting in ten years.
The event, organized by Middle Georgians for Democracy and Hope, is scheduled for March 17 at Scott’s Warner Robins office. Organizers cite a recent recommendation from House Speaker Mike Johnson advising lawmakers to stop holding town halls as part of their motivation.
Despite their concerns, Scott defended his accessibility record, stating he has continually met with constituents and advocacy groups.
Clyde made a similar statement at the time of the Gainesville demonstration and said just this week that he recently held a virtual town hall meeting.
The other congressman representing Hall County, Rich McCormick, held an in-person meeting several weeks ago at which he was met with loud protests over his support of the Trump administration, especially the work of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency. (DOGE)
