Old Oakwood Road closed – an update

Earlier this year, scores of roads across north Georgia were closed as a slow-moving line of torrential rains moved through. Most were reopened as soon as the waters covering them receded. But Old Oakwood Road is still closed.

What’s the status of getting it reopened? We asked Oakwood City Manager B.R. White.

“This is the third washout in about six years,” White noted, before adding, “the City of Oakwood is seeking a more permanent fix to the stream crossing and has placed this on the TSPLOST list of projects.”

White said the initial engineering for a repair has been completed. “It is a design for a more substantial repair than what was done in the past. The projected cost for a current repair exceeds $600,000.”

If TSPLOST doesn’t pass, he said, Oakwood is preparing to seek funding for the repair.

TSPLOST is a penny sales tax that could only be used for transportation projects in Hall County. A referendum on it will be held on election day in November. It’s official: Hall TSPLOST referendum set for Nov. 5 (wgtjradio.com)
