Oakwood overdose death leads to manslaughter charge

A three-month investigation into a drug overdose death in Oakwood led to the recent arrest of a 37-year-old Doraville man on a charged of involuntary manslaughter.

Oakwood Police Det. Lt. Stewart Webb said Monday, the investigation began August 10 when police were dispatched to Township Drive in reference to a reported cardiac arrest. “Upon arrival, Officers entered the residence and located the victim lying on the bathroom floor,” Lt. Webb said. “The victim was holding a syringe in her hand. Hall County EMS/Fire arrived on scene and confirmed that the victim was deceased.”

Detectives who responded to the scene recovered suspected illegal drugs and paraphernalia from the victim’s residence.

An autopsy determined that the cause of death was an “Overdose of Fentanyl” and the manner of death was listed as “Accidental.”

“After a three month long extensive investigation and in coordination with the Hall County District Attorney’s Office, (Oakwood) Detective Brett Earle…was able to obtain an arrest warrant for the charge of “Aggravated Involuntary Manslaughter” against Erik Kahn for selling the Fentanyl to the victim that subsequently caused her death,” Lt. Webb said.

Kahn was arrested by the Suwanee Police Department’s Special Operations Unit and its DEA Task Force Officer.
