“EMAIL CALL AND DEMAND ALLIANCE INDUSTRIAL COMPANY WHO OWNS THE WAREHOUSE AND AVISON YOUNG WHO IS BROKERING THE DEAL TO NOT SELL TO DHS!” begins a The Rainbow Collective Facebook post that went up Friday.
This was just hours before a group of protesters gathered at Oakwood City Hall, demanding that plans for an ICE detention/processing facility in Hall County be scrapped.
The Rainbow Collective post also called on all local leaders to do everything they can to help, and claims that the warehouse where the Oakwood facility would be located has not been sold.
RAINBOW COLLECTIVE POST:
“Despite the misleading headlines – the warehouse in Oakwood has NOT BEEN SOLD yet to DHS! We can and WILL stop this detention center from being in our community! It’s been made clear that our local public officials ARE susceptible to pressure. Hall County people know that we can push developers to withdraw their proposals. Chris Hoag tand Cameron Grogan withdrew their data center dubbed “Project Turbo” after CONSISTENT public pressure! That showed us we DO have the power to change things.
Let them know we do NOT want a detention center in Oakwood! There are multiple ethical and moral reasons why they shouldn’t sell a warehouse to be converted into a concentration camp, but what they’ll listen to the most are the financial reasons not to sell. Remind them THEY HAVE SO MUCH TO LOSE!
Email and call them! Hall County residents and all those who stand with us need to take action as well. Keep pressuring Alliance Industrial Company and Avison Young to NOT SELL to DHS. Keep pressuring Oakwood City, Gainesville City, and the Hall County Board of Comissioners to DO MORE for their residents! Statements aren’t enough- ACTION is needed.”
