NWS: Fire danger, Freeze Warning

Freeze Warning overnight tonight for Gainesville area and rest of north Georgia.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FIRE DANGER NARRATIVE:

“The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Red Flag Warning for low relative humidities, which is in effect from noon today to 8 PM EDT this evening.

  • Affected Area, North and portions of Central Georgia.
  • Timing, Late Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening.
  • Winds, Northwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts near 25 mph.
  • Relative Humidity, Minimum relative humidity values between 20 and 25 percent.
  • Impacts, Due to low humidity and breezy winds, in addition to dry fuels and ongoing significant drought conditions, any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

This warning includes the Chattahoochee and Oconee National Forests. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring, or will occur within 24 hours.

Please refer to the local burn permitting authorities on whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn outside, use extra caution.”
