The National Weather Service (NWS) has moved the eastern edge of the area in north Georgia likely to see severe storms this weekend to just east of Gainesville. It now includes Hall County and all or parts of adjacent counties and the rest of northeast Georgia.
The area that’s included is Level 3, the highest local threat level on the weekend map. The line runs from Clayton to Macon to Albany.
"Severe weather is possible in north and central Georgia Saturday
and Sunday," the advisory says. "An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) of severe weather
expected between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. All severe
weather hazards, tornadoes, damaging winds and hail are possible
with this event.
"Flooding concerns could also develop in northwest Georgia Saturday night or Sunday morning."
The forecast will continue to be updated as the weekend approaches.
But before that system moves in, we can expect another, though not as threatening, on Thursday.
"Isolated thunderstorms will be possible on Thursday. There is a
Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather in west central
Georgia between 2 PM and 8 PM. Damaging winds gusts to 60 mph and
quarter size or smaller hail are the potential hazards."
This system is less likely to have much impact on our area. The greatest risk is in southwest Georgia.
