UPDATE: Still more charges facing man jailed in Gville in April

There are new details about the Hall County Sheriff’s Office’s (HCSO) latest charges filed against a 33-year-old Gainesville man who has been in jail since April and earlier this week learned of new charge filed by the Gainesville Police Department and Oakwood Police.

HCSO UPDATE REPORT:

On Wednesday, April 29, deputies responded to a call about the theft of tools and credit card fraud.

According to the initial investigation, the victims allowed the suspect, Timothy Brad Bingham, 33, of Gainesville, to stay in their vacant home in the 5100 block of Woodmont Place in March due to hardship. During the week of March 31, they went to the home to retrieve some tools and noticed several items were missing. The security cameras in the home were destroyed, and some of its flooring was damaged. The victims asked Bingham to move out.

Over the coming days, the victims found several of their missing items for sale online. They also incurred fraudulent credit card charges involving a card that was mailed to their home while Bingham was staying there. Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigators began looking into the theft. Flowery Branch Police Department investigators handled the credit card case because purchases were made in their jurisdiction.

Bingham was arrested by deputies on April 7 for several traffic citations and violation of his registered sex offender status. Investigators continued their work while Bingham remained in jail on those charges and for felony probation violation.

Investigators traced several of the stolen items to two pawn shops, one in unincorporated Hall County and the other in the city of Gainesville. Bingham sold some of the stolen property through a series of transactions at the shops spanning approximately one month. Items included nail guns, drills, a rotary tool, a knife and a piece of video game hardware.

SIU investigators recovered the property that remained in the stores. Several other items had already been sold. County investigators obtained arrest warrants related to the theft of the property, damage to the home and items Bingham sold at the store in the county. The Gainesville Police Department charged him in connection with the items he sold at the shop in the city. The combined estimated value of the stolen items is $6,000.

Bingham’s Hall County charges, filed on May 5, are theft by taking and second-degree criminal damage to property, both felonies, and seven counts of misdemeanor theft by deception. Bingham remains in the Hall County Jail without bond. His county case remains under investigation.
