New meals provider for local Meals on Wheels program

CITY OF GAINESVILLE NEWS RELEASE:

“Open Hand Atlanta, one of the largest community-based providers of home-delivered meals and nutrition services in the United States, is proud to announce a new partnership with the City of Gainesville to provide meals for the Gainesville-Hall County Meals on Wheels and Senior Life Center programs.

As of July 1, the partnership enables Open Hand to prepare nutritionally balanced, delicious meals for more than 500 older adults daily (Monday through Friday) each week across Gainesville-Hall County.

“We’re honored to support Gainesville’s commitment to the health and well-being of its senior residents with our medically tailored meals,” said Open Hand CEO Matthew Pieper. “Every meal we create is designed to nourish not only the body, but also dignity, independence and quality of life.”

Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss said the new partnership with Open Hand benefits the seniors the City of Gainesville serves in multiple ways.

“The new partnership with Open Hand brings several key benefits to senior residents, including improved meal quality and freshness, more flexibility around when they eat, less food waste, and simple heating instructions that make mealtime delicious, easy and convenient,” Moss said.

For more than 35 years, Open Hand has provided medically tailored meals and nutrition services to Georgians living with chronic and severe illnesses or disabilities. Each meal is thoughtfully prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and guided by the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists.

This partnership reflects Open Hand’s continued mission, and Gainesville’s priority, to help people live healthier, more independent lives through access to proper nutrition.”
