Hall County sheriff’s deputies have charged a Clermont man with DUI after he crashed into his own residence early Saturday and Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) charged him with arson for a fire he allegedly started in his house.
HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:
“At approximately 1:50 a.m., deputies responded to a residential fire at the man’s residence in the 5200 block of Cleveland Highway. The man, identified as William Kyle Underwood, 31, had twice backed his 2017 Hyundai Accent into a basement wall of the house, causing damage, before driving away. No one was injured in the collisions.
Deputies spoke with firefighters and learned Underwood had gone to Hall County Fire Station 2 on Cleveland Highway. Hall County Fire Rescue transported him to the hospital from the station for a non-life-threatening injury he suffered escaping a burning bedroom.
According to a preliminary investigation, Underwood was under the influence of methamphetamine when he struck the house with the car and left the scene. Deputies arrested him for DUI drugs, a misdemeanor, upon his release from the hospital late Saturday morning. He was booked into the Hall County Jail. Underwood posted $1,300 bond and was released from jail Sunday afternoon.”
