Motorist robbed near Hall-Gwinnett line; suspect in custody

A man suspected of robbing a motorist who was changing a flat tire near the Hall-Gwinnett County line last Friday has been arrested by Gwinnett police.

GWINNETT P.D. NEWS RELEASE:

“…One of our officers working our Crime Suppression Detail was flagged down by a motorist (who) explained that her uncle had just been robbed at gunpoint while attempting to change a tire near the Buford Drive and I-985 ramp.

Officers quickly responded to the area and set up a permitter.

The victim described a Hispanic male walking past him on the side of the road and asking him for a ride. When the victim declined, the suspect placed a gun on the victim’s lower back. The suspect ordered the victim to walk near the tree line and ordered him to the ground. The suspect then took a bank envelope containing a large amount of cash from the victim’s pocket and fled the scene on foot.

While on the perimeter, another officer assigned to our Crime Suppression Detail located a male walking near the incident location on I-985. The male was detained and ultimately identified as Johnny Roque (age 28, Sugar Hill). A large amount of cash matching the amount the victim was missing was found on the suspect’s person.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail without incident. Officers were able to confirm that the cash belonged to the victim and returned it to him.”
