As of midnight Sunday, at least seven people had been killed on Georgia roadways since the start of the Memorial Day weekend Friday at 6:00 p.m., according to the state patrol.
The toll includes one fatality in northeast Georgia – in Gilmer County – but the victim’s name was not immediately available.
GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:
“On Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 4:56 pm, Troopers from Post 27 Blue Ridge responded to a two-vehicle crash on GA 5 at Mountain View Drive, in Gilmer County.
A Nissan Frontier was traveling east on Mountain View Drive when the driver failed to yield for a Honda VT100 motorcycle, which was traveling on GA 5. The front of the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the Nissan in the intersection, and the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were both ejected.
The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were flown to Kennestone Hospital (in Marietta) where the driver was pronounced deceased, and the passenger is in critical condition.”
