Most of Ga. now ‘severely’ or ‘extremely’ dry

The drought continued to tighten its grip on Georgia the past week, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).

As of Thursday morning, all but a few counties in middle and northwest Georgia were considered were either “severely” dry or “moderately” dry. Most of northeast Georgia, including Hall and surrounding counties, were in the latter category. Most of the “severely” dry areas were in south Georgia but that intensity continues to push northward.

The level of Lake Lanier remains virtually unchanged from the past four weeks, with a Thursday morning reading of 1065.6.
