More record highs were recorded in Georgia Saturday but the unprecedented December warmth is about to come to a bone-chilling end.
Atlanta and Athens posted record highs for December 27 Saturday – 78 in Atlanta (the old record was 75 set in 2015) and 79 in Athens – while Macon recorded a 79 which tied the record set in 2015.
Elsewhere across Georgia highs were 20+ degrees above normal, continuing a trend that started earlier in the week. But a cold front that will begin moving into the state today (Sunday) is going to end that. Data for Gainesville, which is collected at the airport, was unavailable as of 6:00 Sunday morning.
A few showers can be expected as the front moves through, but Monday will bring clearing skies with temperatures falling throughout the day from the 50s and 60s in the early morning to 30s and 40s by late afternoon with even cold weather in the mountains.
