A dog its Gainesville owner says is worth $6,000 was missing at last check.
Lost dogs are not all that uncommon, of course, but it’s rare that police take a report on one. But that’s what happened last week: a 39-year-old west Gainesville man reported his $6,000 French Bulldog (example of the breed in the accompanying photo) was missing.
The dog reportedly disappeared last Thursday afternoon between 3:30 and 4:30.
Gainesville Police said Monday the owner did not indicate that it might have been stolen only that it went outside to “use the bathroom” and never returned.
A quick Internet search tells us that it’s not unusual for them to be valued up to $5,000-$6,000 a piece. Why? onlyfrenchbulldog.com says there are several factors including their popularity, their rarity, and the cost of veterinary care.
