Member of Hall legislative delegation pushing DST bill

(GA. NEWS NETWORK)

A bill that would end Daylight Saving time (DST) in Georgia has cleared the Senate. The Georgia Sunshine Protection Act is sponsored by Sen. Bo Hatchett (R-Cornelia) whose district includes part of Hall County.

He says the evidence that it disrupts people’s lives is overwhelming.

If passed, the measure would require the governor to request moving Georgia to the Atlantic Time Zone (ATZ), an hour ahead of Eastern Time, exempting the state from daylight saving time clock changes. The ATZ now covers all or parts of Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The bill passed the Senate 45-5 and is now headed to the House.
