UPDATE: Train-pedestrian victim ID’d, apparent suicide

“The death of a pedestrian struck by a train Thursday afternoon in Lula appears to be a suicide, according to a preliminary investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The finding is pending confirmation through an autopsy by the medical examiner.

Deputies and Hall County Fire Rescue were dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. to the intersection of McLeod Street and Main Street, where a man was struck by a train and died at the scene. He has been identified as Douglas Michael Fadool, 64, of Lula.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office responded, and Norfolk Southern Railway temporarily halted train traffic in the area. The intersection was closed until approximately 5:30 p.m. for the investigation.”

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pedestrian fatality involving a train in Lula.

“Deputies and Hall County Fire Rescue were dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. this afternoon to the intersection of McLeod Street and Main Street, where a man was struck by a train,” sheriff’s office spokesman Derreck Booth said. “The man died at the scene.”

Investigators with the sheriff’s office responded, and Norfolk Southern Railway temporarily halted train traffic in the area. Deputies have closed the intersection of McLeod and Main streets while the investigation continues.
