Lula area manhunt ends with quarry’s arrest

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE:

“At approximately 8 last (Thursday) night, Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to a suspicious person call in the 6000 block of Athens Street in Lula.

According to the preliminary investigation, the initial victims (female driver, 44 and male passenger, 7) were traveling on Athens Street when an unknown man threw a beer bottle at their car. A family member (male, 44) of the victims was traveling in a truck behind the car at the time of the incident. Both drivers stopped, called 911, and the male driver confronted the male suspect about the bottle. The suspect then threw a tire tread at the man, resulting in marks and bruising on the victim’s leg. The suspect, later identified as Shawn Edward Dean, 37, of Lula, ran off on foot and into a house in the 6000 block of Chattahoochee Street.

As deputies were meeting with victims, the occupant of the Chattahoochee Street home called 911 to report that a man had run into her residence. Deputies searched the home and did not locate Dean.

While both investigations were happening, deputies established a perimeter, and a K9 team searched for the suspect. While canvassing the area, they developed information that Dean may be at a residence in the 6000 block of Victoria Lane. With permission from the homeowner, they searched the residence and found Dean hiding inside.

Dean is charged with two counts of terroristic threats/acts (felonies) and one misdemeanor count each of battery and criminal trespass. He remains in the Hall County without bond this afternoon.”
