The Gainesville-based Georgia Mountains YMCA is asking for the community’s help to make sure every child in need has a gift under the tree this Christmas. Through the Tree of Giving Program, the Y provides local children and families facing financial hardship with holiday gifts chosen just for them.
Each Angel on the Tree of Giving represents a child from a YMCA program or member family who could use help this season. Sponsors select an Angel and purchase gifts from that child’s wish list, ensuring they experience the joy and hope of Christmas morning.
“The success of the Tree of Giving Program depends on the kindness of our community,” said Lane Walberg, President and CEO of the Georgia Mountains YMCA. “When someone chooses an Angel, they’re helping bring joy and hope to a child on Christmas morning.”
Last year, the program provided hundreds of gifts to families across Hall, Dawson, Banks, and Towns counties. The need this year is even greater.
There are several ways to get involved:
- Sponsor a child or family by selecting an Angel from the Tree of Giving at the J.A. Walters YMCA or online at https://tinyurl.com/YMCAAngel
- No time to shop? That’s ok! Make a donation to help purchase gifts for families
- Encourage others to participate through your workplace, church, or civic group
· Then drop off gifts at the J.A. Walters Family YMCA by December 7.
“The holidays are difficult for families that are struggling,” said Christian Mims, Vice President of Marketing & Communications. “When our community gives through the Tree of Giving, it reminds those families that they are not alone. It reminds them that hope still lives in our community.”
